These are high strength braided ropes having a tightly braided sheath which is known as a mantle around twisted parallel core known as a Kern.

Kernmantle constructions are very suitable for applications where a high level of safety is demanded. The core ( which consists of 7-9 ends of laid rope) provides the majority of the strength, while the sheath protects the core from abrasion.
